Health Benefits Of Lemon Water

Lemon water has been getting a lot of praise in the wellness community as of late, and rightfully so. Personally, I began drinking lemon water religiously when I found out I had kidney stones back in 2011 and let me tell you something, I do not wish that type of pain on my worst enemy. I passed one stone that made me feel like I was literally halfway into my grave then formed another stone about 6-8 months after that. I was at my wit's end with doctors prescribing me medication that would "supposedly" help break down and pass the stones with ease...BULLSHIT! Being as though I grew up living naturally, I was already against taking medication/chemically charged substances for something that could be treated organically so, I found a holistic doctor in Santa Monica who advised me to drink fresh lemon water morning and night. 

Lemons are a highly citric fruit; they contain citrate, a natural chemical which is the main inhibitor of calcium stone formation and can also break up small stones that might combine into bigger stones. I chugged lemon water all day, every day for the next few weeks and passed that God awful kidney stone with much less pain than anticipated, never experiencing another kidney stone to date. Some folks might think it's blasphemy and others might say it's hyped up but what I can personally attest to its benefits and say LEMON. WATER. IS. THAT. SHIT!


Simply put, it's exactly what it sounds like. It's a refreshing beverage combining water and lemon juice. You can slice a fresh lemon then add it to your water. I personally know some folks who can't stand the actual peel floating around in their water as they find it distracting so they squeeze a 1/2 a lemon into a 16-24oz glass of water and then sip with ease. Either way, I'm here for it all because lemon water has been the ultimate game changer for me.

Lemon water is also a great way to increase daily water intake, especially for those folks (like my mom) who can't stand drinking water by itself. If you're feeling fancy, you can add 1/2-1 inch of fresh ginger root to really get your system working.
Optional: Add 1/2 teaspoon of raw honey to add a hint of sweetness to build up tolerance as lemon water alone can be difficult to stomach the first week or two.
